To those who started to take the silencers out (like me) and didn't have specific instructions, I thought I would add more detail. ('cause I couldn't figure out how to get the air box out for example).

I have a 2004 2.4L

1. take off hose to turbo (in my case) that comes off the top of the air box using a screwdriver to loose the clamp. Pull it back an inch or so out of the way.

2. release two latches holding air box down (one on each side).

3. Lift off the cover towards windshield. There are 4 or 5 plastic slots holding it onto the back. Take out air filter (remembering dirty side down)

4. Don't do like I did and try to take out the two silencers while it is still in the air box (doh!). At this point the air box is held down by plastic studs that go into rubber gromets. Just rock it back and forth a little bit and pull straight out. (or sorta straight out as the snorkel has to clear everything.) Go ahead and give it a good tug! After it is loose and you can get your fingers on it, pull off the small blow back hose attached to the left hand side of the air box. Finish by pulling the airbox the rest of the way out of the engine compartment.

5. Now you've got two chores. First, in the top of the lid is one white, round piece of plastic leading to the turbo hose. With a screwdriver you can pull back a white tab inside the opening and then it will slide UPWARD out of the lid. Take the whole thing out.

6. On the air box, use a flat screwdriver to push on the two releases top and bottom on the right side of the air box. You can then wiggle the "snorkel" shaped piece until it slides out to the right. Removing the two top clamps by loosening their respective latches, you will then see the bottom silencer that is filled with holes.

7. I used duct tape and covered them all up top and bottom. re-install the two clamps and push the "snorkel" back into position.
It should click into place.

8. Re-install everything in reverse order making sure the air-filter is not upside down, the blow back hose is connected, and the air box has a good seal.

Hope this helps! [8)]
