To answer your 2nd question 1st: It is ok to wax your car. The paint is already cured and can be waxed. However, you should do some paint prep before you wax. After washing, use a clay bar on your car to remove any embedded dirt like rail or brake dust or industrial pollution that may be on or in the paint from the transportation. Washing or even polishing will not remove these particles. You can buy a clay bar locally, like Mother's or Clay Magic. You should clay bar your paint once or twice a year. Then I would use a paint cleanser to increase the gloss or brighten up the paint and remove any minor blemishes. Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish, S100 Shine Enhancing Paint Cleanser (go to a motorcycle shop/dealer), Mother's Pre-Wax Cleaner, etc. should be easily available locally. Now your paint is ready for your favorite wax or sealant.

Sealants or synthetic waxes/polishes will last a lot longer than a carnuaba wax. How long any wax or sealant lasts depends on your local environmental conditions. I serious doubt that many in this forum would test the maximum limits of any wax/sealant. Looks are subjective, some prefer the reflective qualities of a sealant/synthetic, while others want the deep wet look from a carnuaba wax. And a few use both to try to get the best of both worlds. In general, do not use a cleaner wax if you do not want to stain your trim. Read the label/instructions and see if there are any cautions/warnings about trim, mirror, or bumper staining. Also some waxes/sealants sheet water instead of beading water, so it may be hard to know when to rewax your car. Remember, any wax or sealant is just a sacrificial layer to protect your paint, and it's up to you to maintain that protection. If you have any doubts, just wax your car. Some waxes/sealants are very easy to use and just requires you to wipe on, wipe off, so spending a lot of time and effort to wax and buff or waiting should no longer be an issue.
