The BTG is a 2 1/4" exhaust. The performance improvements they get is from the flow through muffler and the mandrel bends rather than an increase in interior dimensions.
Reducing noise is a high design priority for most car manufacturers. Eliminating drone is a big part of that. For those that want a little more power and more noise, the aftermarket exhaust is a good way to go. It will allow the engine to make some additional power, just don't expect miracles. A good flow-through 2 1/2" exhaust may make a slight difference (but not much) from a good flow-through 2 1/4" exhaust when you are turning out less than 200 hp. You just aren't moving that much air.
