That is EXACTLY how I diagnosed a 99 Toyota Camry with a code for "incorrect purge flow", last Tuesday.
I have a special pump for diagnosing turbo and supercharger boost issues, but it's not very accurate at only .5psi. A straw is much more controllable.
(The Toyota had a faulty vapor management valve switch and disintigrating charcoal canister.)
