You should be able to get shocks at any decent parts store.Meineke is the big problem. You need to find a repair shop that you can trust.
The knocking noise is probably a sway bar link. It's either a loose nut or a balljoint on the sway bar. My 01 had the exact same problem.. It was just a loose nut.
Due to mileage I would replace your front struts and rear shocks. Race and street has a deal for the front and rear shocks for around $200 which is a heck of a good deal. You'll have to find a shop to put them on but that shouldn't be too hard. Heck try Pep Boys or some place like that.
