I like to clean it first thing in the AM so it can dry in the sun all day. Make sure it it completely dry as water and oil don't mix. That evening I apply the oil...SPARINGLY!...and let it sit overnight. It takes some time for the oil to "wick" through the cotton material evenly. Next morning it is ready to reinstall.
