I have thought about this idea before. I think it would look great. I'd love to do a PT as a '50 style rat rod.
If your serious I'd look around the web or car shows. There are plenty of people that have done older cars. olskoolrodz.com and magazine might be a good spot to check out. PTeaser might be worth asking also since the cut the window down on their Roaster and offer a fiberglass top.
Glass will be the biggest problem because it has to be cut, reshaped or remade.
A lot of chop top cars change or lower the seats to make up the difference in interior height.
Based on show cars. it looks like all of the ones that have changed around the top, like the Super Cruiser, Decoma Coupe or Califonia Cruiser, are all two doors. Which means they are most likely using the convertable as the base. This would make sence since the body is reinforced thus the top would be less strutual. All they would do is remove the convertable top and then build a hard top. A four door could be done but it might be worth while to find someone who did the 4 door convertable and get the body reinforcements from them.
Anywat that's my 2 cents. I hope it helps out. I SO want to see it if you actually go ahead.
