I currently have a remote start (Viper 791) on my PT and a Clifford system on my '93 4Runner. I never had any problems with either, although the Viper is a newer system. The higher end systems have built in safety for such events. But I'm surprised the person who had his remote start cause a fire due to the starter trying to start the car the whole day. I can see stupidity and faulty equipment are the blame. I use my remote start when I know I will be entering my vehicle within 5-10 minutes on a cold day. On hot summer, I would barely even run the remote start, if I did, it would be only as I approached the vehicle. The person who wanted to remote start his vehicle while being at the beach for the whole day was kind of stupid, sorry to say. If he wanted to step inside a cool vehicle, there's an easier way by leaving the windows open a crack, having tinted windows and a windshield cover, which is what I do on extreme hot days.
