Basically the Stage 1 is a new computer that replaces the factory unit. It increases boost, which increases HP and torque, but it also lets the boost, and therefore the HP, come on a bit sooner. It also tightens up the shifting of the automatic tranny for quicker, crisper shifting.
For the '03 models the upgrade includes new, larger fuel injectors. The '04 upgrade is just the computer as this model year came with the larger injectors as standard equipment.
Stage can be fitted to either the High Output GT engine (220HP) or the Turbo Lite (180HP) engine that first appeared in the '04 Limited Edition cars. The end result is the same for both engines though - 240HP.
