Your first clue will be when brake light blinks when you punch the gas. The brake fluid goes down as pads wear, and sooner or later, brake light will blink - telling you pads have worn enough for fluid to sometime drop below the low mark. When mine did it, the pads were still pretty thick, but I replaced with ceramic pads anyway and eliminated dust.
You can go to Sci-Fi's site and see a list of available brakes.

The fronts should go first, tho a few folks have reported they needed rears first!!
