I, too, have used Rain-X for years and never had problems. I apply it each time I wash my car, which is almost every week. True, if you over apply, you will get smears, but I just get a paper towel and buff it clear. Heck, it's hard for me to see any smears anyway, unless I catch the windshield at a certain angle. I used to apply it on all windows, but now I only apply it on the windshield and headlight and foglights. With it on, I hardly use my wipers, even on days with a drizzle, even if I'm driving slow. It even helps from the dead bugs from baking on, too.
