Thanks to all for the help and pointers to other sites, etc....After spending the last couple of days bleary-eyed, glued to my Mac, clicking through all the various PT forums and sites, I gotta say I am truly awed by all the info that's out there...(cue old Police tune "Too Much Information...runnin' thru my brain...").
After more thought, we've decided to seriously try to find that pristine Aquamarine '01 that HAS to be out there for us....we just love that color, and unless Chrysler is planning on putting it back into the lineup, we figure we'd better try to find what we really want before they've all been driven into the ground/trashed.
Found one on ptcruisersales.net that looks to be exactly what we want, (only 1,700 miles on it..."never driven in the rain"....!!!!) but it's all the way across the country from us (it's in MA and we're in Austin, TX), and we'd have to get it trailered/hauled down here. We plan on calling the fellow who has it next week to get the details....Asking price ($19,000) seems kinda high, but if it only has 1,700 miles on it and has been coddled and babied, it feels worth looking into. Need to research whether having it trucked down here is feasible...may prove too expensive, so we definitely want to know if any of you are in the general vicinity of Austin and know of a squeeky-clean Aquamarine for sale...one that granny only drove to church on sunny Sundays and that didn't get puked in by her teenage grandson's drunk friends

....please get in touch with us!
We're gonna go for that total "Vintage look" when we start "making it ours". Hopefully, it will have those 16" chrome wheels from the first year, and the first things to get added are definitely gonna be the chrome beltline, that amazing "real chrome" grille that CREWZIN' found, and these rockin' little "40's fender" things...cool, eh? I think they'll look good on Aquamarine....cue up the Glenn Miller, Andrews Sisters and Bennie Goodman...
And one more little observation: after reading posts in other forums from the disgruntled few who think the PT sucks, they all seem to say the same thing: Poor accelleration and lousy brakes, some tranny probs. That got me thinking: these are probably the kind of people who slam the accelerator pedal down every time they accellerate, run right up behind other cars and then slam the brakes down to stop in time....the kinda drivers that piss me off every day....the kind of people that to my mind ***don't know how to drive properly!!!!*** (I spent many years in Old Volkswagen culture, and the same sort of complaints about bugs came from people who refused to **learn how to drive/maintain the car properly**!!!!) Their gripes only reinforce our determination to get one! heehee!
