Oh Boy, this is a little scary! There is certainly a lot more you need to learn before taking a task like this on. Not bashing you just trying to help you understand a little better.
No you cannot use the GT shortblock with your existing head.
The GT engine swap is much too complicated for you or your friend.
.
The GT turbo can not just be taken off and bolted on your engine.
Yes you can use the Turbo, but you will need a large # of other things:
-Fuel system
-Fuel return line
-Fuel Management system for fuel pressure
-Piping, hoses, fittings, lines. What size will you use for each of those??
-Downpipe
-Boost controller
-Boost, Fuel presssure, A/F (wideband)gauges
-Aux coolant overflow
-Possible battery relocation
-Map clamp
-etc...
OK once you get all those ironed out, you need to be aware of what your boost limits are of the stock bottom end.
You might as well us the GT internals to beef it up so you can play with boost a bit more.
There is a lot to think about here.
