Hatch no longer turns inside lights on
Is it just me, or do the 2001 and 2002 models turn the interior lights on when the rear hatch is opened?
I remember my 2002 TE would turn them on when I opened the hatch. Now, on the 2003, I have to either open a door or turn them on at the stalk.
If DC has stooped this low, it is not in the interest of saving a buck; it has to be them trying to find the breaking point.
The door (and hatch) sensors/switches "ride the buss"; they are connected into one of the many computer modules or routers that are incorporated in the Cruiser's electronice. The dash tells if one of them isn't shut; meaning the signal needed to turn on the light arrives at the same place that the signals for the other 4 doors do. Same deal for the security system and auto door lock controller.
What could possibly be gained by Chrysler for them to have to revise the firmware, re-tool, or pay a contractor to redesign a sensor, router or computer to ignore the rear hatch sensor in the interior lighting circuit?
I had better look again; they may have omitted the rear hatch sensor. If that is the case, there is another maajor safety issue...
