Default Possible Warranty Option

If you are following the discussions about the Stage I Performance Upgrade from Mopar Performance Parts, and the warranty quagmire, the following may be of interest.

In the last week's Daily Spam (My Outlook Express Inbox), I received an offer for a quote on an add on service contract. I responded, and a representative called me on the phone, verified the mileage and model and came back with the sales pitch.

The warranty add on is for 6 years or 100K miles. It is $1218.00. The rep agreed that this price should be fairly close for cars with under 12K miles.

I explained the situation about the performance parts add-ons, and they said they would cover the aftermarket parts. If anyone is interested, I would suggest that you get that promise in writing before making a committment.

The plan covers what most deluxe contracts cover; engine, drivetrain, electrics (including window motors, electric door locks, sunroof motors, wiper motors, etc.). It has flat service, lockout service, rental car allowance if repair takes longer than a day, food and lodging if repair is over 100 miles from your residence. There are limits of 75.00 per day for food and lodging, and 50.00 per day for rental. There is a 50.00 copay per incident, and they authorize work and back with corporate credit card. This allows work to be done by the dealer or mechanic of your choice.

If, for any reason, Chrysler decides to pull the rug out from underneath you on your warranty, this would be an alternative. It would also set a figure to try to recoup from Chrysler, using whatever legal method that suits your fancy.

I can provide contact info if anyone is interested.

It hasn't come to this yet, but this could be an option. It would be nice for Chrysler to rebate the percentage of purchase price that was dedicated to warranty, and let them quibble amound themselves about warranty issues until the cows come home. This would give them their wish of no liability for their actions, and the rebate would probably cover a real warranty. I am sure the outfit that offers this warranty has ways of supporting it, such as the copay and the up front contract costs. As long as they don't invest your payment unwisely, they should be able to keep their promises.

Either way it is a crapshoot, and this is an extra pair of dice to play with.
