Default Tire recommendations.... a happy ending!

A week or so ago, I posted a request for opinions and recommendations for tires to replace the Goodyear Eagles.

A number of you expressed your obvious dissatisfaction with Goodyear and I can understand why. My situation was after having Goodyear replace the 4 tires 3 different times! After proving to Goodyear that the problems I was experiencing were not mechanical (many visits to the Chrysler dealership) I first had the original Eagle LS tires replaced with new ones. That helped, but two of them had a "radial pull". Then two of the new LS's were replaced again. When it was time to rotate them, the "pull" came back.

This time I went directly to the main office for Goodyear in Akron, OH. They got involved and agreed to upgrade the Eagle LS tires with Eagle HP's. They were "ok", but when I went to rotate them, the pull came back. No alignment problem, just rebalancing and rotating the tires from front to back caused the problem. I re-opened my case with the main office in Akron.

After a couple of days of deliberation, they decided that no Goodyear tire was going to work on my PT. They agreed to buy back the Eagle HP tires after I replaced them with a non-Goodyear brand, brought them the receipt and returned the HP's. I think they were tired of me and I was definitely tired of Goodyear.

After calliing around and pricing tires (and taking note of the suggestions on this list) I discovered that Merchant's/Tire Kingdom had a special on all of their tires - buy 3 get the fourth for free. After looking at all they had available, I decided to go with BF Goodrich Traction TA's. They are H-rated like the Eagle HP's but are warrantied for 60K miles where the Goodyears were not.

I can already feel a difference and I am very pleased with the BFG tires. They look good too.

I just heard from Goodyear that they've put the reimbursement check to me in the mail. So, after more than a year of grief, I came out pretty good. A new set of tires courtesy of Goodyear.

Even though the Goodyear tires were not good, I have to admire their efforts in wanting to make me, the customer, happy. They did the right thing and I have to applaud them for it. It is a testimony to good customer service.

A blessed New Year to all of you!
