There's a short story on the customization habits of PT owners in the Feb 04 issue of Automobile Magazine. It talks about a meeting in Missouri and all the customized rides that showed up. The first paragraph is pretty cool in itself:

"Among retro-styled cars, the Ford Thunderbird has staggered and fallen. The Volkswagen New Beetle peaked after every woman between fifty and sixty acquired one. The Mini Cooper? It's like soccer. Good marketing plan, lots of interest, but football stays supreme. So the Chrysler PT Cruiser is El Supremo among retro jobs. Since its February 2000 introduction, it has sold more than 600,000 units worldwide."
