I take it you went from the stock air filter to the Volant? Yea, that would make a heck of a difference in sound, especially when you put your foot down. I also take it that you got the answer to your questions with the hood latch and tube. You need to get yourself some hood supports from Blane. They are the best mod a lot of us have ever made and now they come in almost any color you want. They only made black when I bought them but I covered them in chrome tape. I kept the original hood prop but painted it black so it wouldn't stand out and just keep it latched up on the side.
