Default Fast idle in cold weather?

I just got my 2001 Cruiser in 12/01. It had 27 miles on it, I am up to about 800 now. The weather was in the 50's and 60's. Last week, temperatures returned to the norm's of 20's and 30's. Since then, when I first start the car, it idles really fast and sounds like a volkswagon. It doesn't start to purr until after a few miles and the temp guage is midway between hot and cold. Is this normal. Is this because of the oil, part of break-in? Thanks for your help.
