Default I bet that hurt

Detroit Free Press

A little showboating caused a frightening accident Friday on Woodward Avenue that blemished an otherwise safe and uneventful preview to the Dream Cruise.

The accident occurred just north of 13 Mile on northbound Woodward after the driver of the Corvette tried to emulate another classic car that was spinning and smoking its tires. The Corvette accelerated across the median, flipped and landed on a PT Cruiser in the oncoming lane.

"We see that a lot out there. One person shows off and another person tries to mimic it," Wightman said. "Thank God they didn't go through the crowd."

Spectators pulled the driver and passenger from the wreck, police said.

The driver, 39, of Bloomfield Hills and the passenger, 41, of Commerce Township were treated and released at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, said Ilene Wolff, hospital spokeswoman. No one else was hurt.

The driver was cited for reckless driving, police said. The Corvette was heavily damaged.
