You may want to also consider the
215/50R-17 Sumitomo HTR+ for a all-season high performance tire to be used on stock GT wheels:
"...with the Sumitomo you can mount a 215/45 on our factory wheel. Yes I said 45 series. But this may only work with the Sumitomo because of their dimensions. This actually lowered the car 1 inch which I liked and to tell you the truth is why I tried it. But it left way too much empty space between the top of the rear tire and the fender well at the rear. It just looked funky to me. I tried it for two weeks and went back and got the 215/50 Sumitomo HTR+ which looks very beefy/nice profile and is the widest footprint you can go on our factory wheel.
The diameter/width of the factory 205/50 Goodyears is 25.4/7.3...
The diameter/width of the Sumitomo HTR+ 215/45 is 24.5/7.7...
The diameter/width of the Sumitomo HTR+ 215/50 is 25.4/7.9...
As you can see, the 215/50 gives you the same exact height as the Goodyears but is .6 inches wider.
That doesn't sound like much but when you compare the two side by side it is amazing!!!
So to summarize, on certain brands you may be able to go to a 215/45 max and would look ok if your car was lowered.
In my opinion because I've tried it, the 215/50 is the way to go. So again, you can only go up one size...to 215 from your 205's because of this wheel..."
