I think that the threaded shaft will only adjust how much "free play" or travel will be in the pedal before the cluch is disengaged. The total top to floor travel will remain the same but you can adjust where the "action" takes place.
You should be able to feel only slight resistance at first, then a bit more resistance when you actually begin to push on the lever that is moving the throwout bearing and cluch proper.
The majority of people are most comfortable with about an inch or so of free play before the cluch starts to disengage.
If I'm wrong about this, somebody correct me. That's how they used to be.
