41TE transaxle speed in gears @ 1500 RPM should be L(first)=20 MPH, 3(really 2nd)=30 MPH, 3 (direct)=45 MPH, OD=30 MPH, OD (with TCC) 45 MPH.
Notice that at low RPM, there is a 15 MPH slip in the torque converter?
While keeping the RPMs low is a good basic plan, it is not the only factor. Load is also involved. You could connect a vacuum gauge to monitor, but the computer is pretty darn good at getting the best mileage. As others have said, the reason for the GT is power, not economy. Have you checked the alignment, pumped up the tires and all the other stuff they tell you to do for best economy?
