Best friend is named "Gonzo" (Gonzales) too!
My name came about one drunken night in Mexico. The Mexicans I was with kept mispronouncing "Doug" as "Duck". My slurred speech (I thought I was pretty fluent when I was drunk) denied being a "pato" (duck). Everyone laughed and started calling me "Patoloco" (Daffy Duck). Didn't know at the time that "pato" is also slang for "fag" (I know, it's supposed to be "homosexual"-- but I'm being accurate in translation here), so patoloco also means "crazy fag". Lots of my friends found this hilarious and I've been stuck with (and eventually embraced) this nickname. I eventually became a Spanish translator (a few years of study later), so the name (and the story) has followed me around....
