Just got my front brakes done the other day. I originally went in for a $20 oil change, and the manager said that I have less than 10% of the pads left on the brakes and I wouldn't make it to the next oil change. I was feeling it when I stepped on the brakes that it took longer to stop. The shop routinely checks the rear drums, and they cleaned out all the crud, cuz if you don't the shoes don't align properly. Generally the rear drums dont need replacing for a while.
