There are lots of higher wattage high beam headlights available. If you go past 55-60 watts, get a complete kit that replaces the wiring and socket as well as the bulb. Melting your wiring harness leaves much to be desired. Some folks here have gone to higher wattage bulbs with no problems but others have had damage so I wouldn't risk it.

Many years ago I had Lucas Flamethrowers in place of my high beam headlights. That pencil beam would really reach out and light up the road at a distance. You might try adding a pair of long distance driving lights (as opposed to fog lights) to supplement your current headlights. None of the high wattage lights are legal so you might as well go for the brightest, furthest thrown lights you can get (without making your PT look like a Rally Car).
