Deer whistles really do work, I've seen it personally. Wouldn't drive without them now.
Mine are tucked under the bumper in the opening next to the fog lights. Hardly noticable at all. Mine are slightly angled outward, heard it worked better that way, covers more area.
There are 2 different types, one just passive, using the air speed, anything over about 30mph. The other is electronic, and work any time the car is running.
