Follow the recommendations in your manual. That being said, I usually change the oil and filter immediately (5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil and a premium filter like Purolator Pure One, K&N, or Mobil One)and follow the severe oil and filter guidelines (change the "oil and filter" every 3,000 miles). This ensures that no floating bits or assembly lube is left in the engine.
