The antenna has a 3/4 round post that sticks out the bottom, 2 little spurs stick out the side of the post slightly near the top. After the hole is drilled in the roof, the post is pushed down into the hole and the spurs spring out after they pass through the roof. The bottom (roof meeting) side of the antenna has a rubber gasket seal around it and a glue pad that you uncover before you push the antenna onto the roof.

To remove the antenna you would have to drop the headliner, compress the little spurs on the post, and push it back out. I don't know how permanent the glue pad is, but for me, I wouldn't mess with it!

I had a dealer install one on my 02 silver, and I did the install on my wife's 03 Electric blue. It wasn't hard, but drilling a hole into the top of your PT's roof is scarey.
