when i saw this post i developed a nervous twitch.
ive spent the last ten months and a bit of money looking for and researching brake upgrades ,also got ripped off for 2.000.00 in the process, which almost ended the quest ,then , by accident i found a co. thats been around 32 years building brake systems.
well, like everyone else they dont make a compleate setup for the pt ,they didnt make anything for the pt,untill now.
ill start at the begining, i have an 01 base model, [the better to modify my dear] with drums on the rear.i wanted to find a rear drum to disc kit ,which i was directed to by this very site[wycoff chrysler parts] thirteen hundred bucks and it s all oem parts that you would need if you were starting with nothing back there , so you get alot of stuff you already have ,but ,what can you do? and i did try the junk yard route,i mean if you want to know about pt brakes ,ask me , i really did end up with quite an education, as i said ,i researched and obcessed and researched this thing.
i will get to the best part here pretty quick and spare you the gorry details of the full ten months.
willwood makes a front only kit [rotors ,calipers, stainless lines etc] and they will supply a set of replacement rear rotors w/ parking drum. but when i tried to purchace a set of rear calipers ,they wouldnt do it for fear they would lock up and i would kill myself and other unpleasent stuff. but a place called hemicruiser said they could do it with willwood parts no problem ,they said they did it all the time,a compleat setup from the master cylinder down to the brake pedal.well, remember the part where isaid i got ripped off for 2.000.00 . well, that was it . for the record, wilwood had nothing to do with that ,hell, they didnt even know that the co.[what a joke] that told me they did it all the time wasw a wilwood dealer.
the rest of the companys i contacted [Baer ,Brembo , PM , on and on etc .pretty much said the same thing , and i did beg and plead.
so if your looking to upgrade your fourwheeled disc pt your coverd, wilwood makes a decent squeeky set up ,[road in a wilwood equiped pt , can still hear em] oh yeah, theres a place in longbeach ca.,racetech, that will engineer you a set if you drop your car off and its 6.000.00 bucks just for the front,to start.
those cloverleaf looking rotors someone mentioned look awsome on my pt ,and ive got the pics to prove it ,if someone could just help me with how to get em on the site.but im geting ahead of myself, i gave it one last shot and called a co i found by accident when i wasn't even looking. they were wounderful and invited me down, there about 60 miles from me,i was there.
to cut to the chase , it was no problem for them to pull a couple of rotors off the shelf and in a couple of trys they had a perfect fit,now this is for rotors ,crossdrilled or not,i went with the x-drilled, billit 4 piston calipers, polished of coarse steel or kevlar lines and a choise of pads.
for the back we were, notice how i said "we" they made the whole experience feel that way. they were going to see what they could do with my 90 pounds of oem rear pt brake parts but thestock stuff would have required much modifacation and engineering,so , theyfound a rearhat, did i mention that these are a true modular racing type brake i mean billit hats with replacible bolt on rotors very trick, well, the rear parking drum type brake is retained as the happen to have a hat that works perfectly and is the same demnsionsas the oem parking brake set up,and the rotor that bolts up is the same diameter as the front and uses the same 4 piston polished caliper ,they whipped up a billet machined caliper locating bracket thet bolts up to the rear mounting points .
we did use the new disc hubs that came with the wycoff kit but they will be supplieing these parts in there kit ,yes the first and only compleate preformance kit for the pt,but you will have to email me or wait a few days, yes only days, for there name and number ,as they have asked me not to spread it around too much, right away, as they dont rea
