I read that "white" LED's are actually a blue, with a filter that changes it to white. Your camera must be able to pick up the underlying color. That's why you have to use red LEDs for a stop light. White LED's aren't really white, and when viewed through a red lens, the light gets filtered out so much you can't see them.
