Alarms are only as good as the install. I worked as an installer before joining the military. For a first time install, practice on someone elses junker, so you can figure out the tricks and what works and what doesn't. The instructions that come with alarms don't do much because every car is different. The biggest thing is to make the alarm installation look stock. I just ordered a GT Cruiser so I'll be doing an install on that one sometime in the future, I would recommend finding someone to help you thats done it before though to make sure you have a good install.
