Gee, I didn't know so many cruiser drivers were such hardened criminals! Ok, me too! I went in to renew my driver's license. I was really proud because I wasn't late doing it like I usually am! So, I go up to the counter, have no problems, and then this cop comes up to me and asks me if I have any knives or guns in my purse?! I nearly fell over with shock, said no, of course not officer and then he asks me to come in an office. So I go, and then he tells me there is a warrant out for my arrest! Then I nearly did fall over in a dead faint, and asked him to please explain why. He then calls my local precinct to find out why, and tells me it is because I received a ticket for an expired sticker on my car. I did, about a year earlier, had gone IN to the constable's office and attempted to pay it and show them it had been renewed, and they couldn't find the ticket and told me to forget about it. So, I did. Literally.

By now I was about to cry. I was going to call my husband and his best friend next, who is a judge. Well, fortunately, the woman talking to him on the phone who was the secretary in the office he called asked him to describe me and when he did, she told him not to arrest me but send me up to their office and they would take care of it. She knew me. So, he agreed to do that, but told me to go straight there. I was almost out of gas and asked him if I could stop for that and he said yes. ( As you can see, I am a really experienced hardened criminal here! Duh.)

I then began to get a little miffed about the whole thing- we had a burglary the year before and they were not NEARLY as interested in solving that. I politely suggested that maybe their time would be better spent solving my burglary than hassling me about my sticker. That didn't seem to set very well, but the guy still let me go! I went on up to the local office and they dismissed the ticket!I was lucky somebody knew me and vouched for me, but what would have happened if I didn't? I wonder how many people actually get arrested for something this petty?? Bureaucracy run amok once again![xx(]
