Do NOT try to tow your PT with the key in the lock position. Use the ACC position. As you tow, the wheels on your PT will turn to the right and left significantly as you corner causing the steering wheel lock to activate.
You will find that the battery drain may be somewhat greater than with your 2002 but is generally not a problem unless you tow for more than 8 hours a day or have a supplemental braking system that plugs into the power port. I have a Brake Buddy which uses additional power so I purchased a solar panel which I Velcro to the dash to keep in place and use a cigarette lighter adapter that allows both the Brake Buddy and the solar panel to be plugged into the always on power port on the dash. The key controlled power ports do not work with the key in the ACC position unfortunately (at least they don't on my 2003).
The car will not accumulate mileage in the ACC position.
