I have traveled 27,847 miles on my '03 GT PT Cruiser and burned 1,416.39 galons of gasoline. So my average MPG is 19.66 MPG.

I always look at two or three mileage readings together when assessing my mileage. If I don't quite fill the tank before a trip and maybe over-fill it after a trip, it can give the impression of much lower gas mileage than actual, and visa-versa.

My 2003 GT has 33,000 miles on it and it is my daily driver. Most of my driving is stop and go in heavy suburban commuter traffic. I tend to be a lead-foot with jack-rabbit starts. Usually when I hit the open highway I drive 70 to 80 MPH.

My best tank so far was 27.4 MPG during a long trip from Virginia to Maine and back. During that trip the fill ups showed:
25.8
21.4
27.4
20.4
22.5
22.7
That trip averaged 23.4 MPG. I almost always use 93 oct. gas. During the trip listed above, the 22.7 MPG trip was on 89 octane, the rest were with 93 octane.

Notice that the 27.4 MPG trip is followed by a 20.4 MPG trip. This suggests that when I filled the tank after the 27.4 MPG I didn't fill it all the way giving a false high MPG. For this reason I think the average 23.4 MPG is more accurate.

Joe

PS: Some people may note that I had previously posted a message with worse mileage than this. That's because I overlooked the trip listed above.
