Richslider and phatcat, welcome.
Now on to the topics; The brakes are well documented as being quick to wear. Hope your new set lasts longer. Did you get the brake light (low fluid level) before service? This is a common indicator you are getting close to needing pads.
On the trans, there have been problems, and you should fight the charge. The lower control arm bushings are also a problem with earlier cars. There is a TSB, I think. Both of you guys should do some searching through the forum for this stuff so you will be better informed.
To answer your next question, the multifunction switch and tires are also subject to ridicule here.
