quote:I don't understand why everyone is saying this is the future PT? The Dodge Caliber? I don't get it. It's a completely different car. And it has the Dodge branding on it, not Chrysler. I saw a version of the PT on Car and Driver and in a magazine and it did not look like the Dodge Caliber at all. I believe the Caliber is a SUV and has nothing to do with the future PT at all. It is it's own vehicle and completely different to the PT. I will post some images of what I saw as the future PT when I can find some.

it has been widely reported (including in a recent car and driver) that this car will be the basis for the next cruiser, due in 08. it was developed with Mitsu, and will debut this year as the caliber, then next year comes the new mitsu lancer, then the cruiser. think there are posts on this or other forums with the chrysler statement about it. the caliber is not an suv, but the replacement for the neon designed to compete with the matrix and civic (but i think like pt robert said it will also be the platform used for a smaller jeep?). i'd imagine the next gen PT will look different from the caliber, but will share at least some of the mechanical guts. sorta like the new chevy colbalt and hhr don't look alike, but share most of their mechanical parts....

Thanks for clearing that up. That makes more sence. The image of the PT Cruiser I saw for 2008 could of had this Caliber "guts" underneath it. The version I saw was more square shaped and had fake wood-like paneling on the sides. It wasn't wood color, but matched the color of the car. It had off road tires on it and DID look more like a Jeep. It was featured on a beach and had 2 surf boards on top. They were saying it was the next version of the PT. I didn't care for it because of all of the nice curves of the cruiser were gone!
