Agree w/Fritz and Purple.
Amber was made law for the front signals - they used to be clear - sometime in the 60's. The third brake light was made law.. 80s? but the rear turn signals SHOULD be amber. The red option allows for the REALLY cheap cars that use one light for brake and turn - bad news if the guy is tapping the brakes while turning because you don't know which blink is which...
It's really academic - I see lots of people that don't use the turn signals anyway.... Pet peeve of mine... I always blow the horn when they don't - I figure it's the least I can do ..
