Hi, I have just received a new inside rearview mirror (chrome with flames) but the stock mounting plate is too big, so I have to replace it by the new one.So: remove the original one, cleaning the windshield and glue with silicone the new one...is it difficult to do ? any feedback or suggestions ?
A couple tips:

I am presuming you are using the specialty mirror adhesive, not a general purpose silicon... if not, head to your local auto parts shop for the right stuff, a couple bucks spent now will save you annoyance down the road.

Be very diligent in cleaning off the old adhesive.

Follow the instructions for the new adhesive to the letter.

Be sure both surfaces are perfectly clean, with no solvent residue on them.

Make sure the temperature is right (Too hot or too cold will screw up the bond).

Allow plenty of time for the glue to dry before mounting the mirror on the plate or driving the car.

Done right the glue job should last the life of the windshield.

---- If you don't feel comfortable doing this installation yourself (it really is pretty easy), visit a trusted auto-glass installer and pay them to do it for you.
