I've had them on for a few years now too. I have the one's with "
PT Cruiser" written across the bottom and the lettering finally wore out just a couple months ago.
Like Mean Green, I used the factory screws after lining the flaps up and drilling 2 holes on each one were they were needed.
Do they help [:I] I've always had them on and the back quarter panal in back of the flaps has no nicks, so I guess they do.
