I'll let the GT guys get into the "how much" & "how to" of switching, but the reason for the switch is that there's a few extra ponys (hp) to squeeze out of the engine with the plastic manifold. Appearently the plastic not only weighs less, but doesn't get hot (no heat soak) so cooler air reaches the cylinders..and cooler air = more HP.
