The optional boost gauge for the wrx is 45mm ~ 1.75 inches.

I feel the same way you do. I want something that looks like it belongs. I do have a stock srt pod that im trying to make a place for. So far the only thing I can come up with is to mold it into the steering column cover next to the hazards. I just need to find a spare cover to work on.
