I didn't have to touch the air bag cover. There are 2 small covers on the outside of the handle.Pry them off with a small screw driver.Once you remove those covers there are 2 long screws that hold the handle on.Remove those screws.Once those screws are out you can remove the handle. After removing the handle unclip the dash peice. When you have the grey dash peice off you will notice that there is a white plastic peice that the 2 long screws go throgh.Take a dremel tool with a cut off wheel and cut the 2 stumps off that support the handle. On the grey peice do the same.Take the dremel and cut the stumps off and grind them completely flat.I then took the peice to a fabric store and found a grey vinyl with grain that matched the interior closely. Its a shade off but if you look at the handle it doesn't match either.I took the dash peice and put 2 strips of duct tape to cover the holes.I then used a peice of poster board cut to the same size as the peice and duct taped that on so there is no chance of seeing the holes after it is covered..Then take the vinyl and wrap the peice.I used velcro and modle glue to hold the vinyl on.Sounds half assed but it worked. When you are finished just clip the peice back in.Once its back on you don't see any of the velcro or duct tape and you have 1 trick dash peice and you never have to look at that stupid handle again. If any one wants to do this i will do my best to help

I even have some extra vinyl that i will gladly share. If you don't feel confident about doing the vinyl just do all the grinding and bring it to an apolstry shop to have it covered. Its really not hard just time consuming.I hope that this makes sence [:I]
