If I remember right a power outlet is self grounding through the outer casing of the unit,try taking the outlet out and lightly sanding the outside down to make sure there is no corrosion or anything else on it and that you are getting a good connection that way.
Another thing you could try is to take a short piece of wire and attach one side to a mounting screw on your cradle and the other end to a body screw.
The easiest way to figure out which you have to do is to take a test light and with the ignition on,and the motor and ac running, put one end(with the point)directly into the center of the outlet and use the other end to probe around until you get the brightest light you think is possible start with the sleeve to the outlet and work from there.
