I did a test Regular vs Premium and it makes a 15% difference in performance and a 10 % difference in mileage. Almost enough to make up the difference in the cost. There is a knock sensor which retards the timing and boost on regular.
You're better off using premium but you can use regular with no damage, just lesser performance.

Are you 100% sure there is no damage being done? The knock sensor will not prevent all damage when under a heavy load.
