If you are not looking for the performance of the GT (turbo-charged), the best build level was achieved on the 2002 models. The Touring Edition comes stock with a more performance oriented suspension, and could be ordered with options right up to the build level of the Limited Edition.
If you do go for the 2003 model, you will give up:
-One of the two horns that were on the 2002
-Fold-away outside rearview mirrors that were on the 2002
-Heated outside rearview mirrors that were on the 2002
-Illumination in the rear window switches that was on the 2002
-Deadman's Pedal (foot rest pad) on far left of pedals.
-Some seldom seen protective plastic on the inboard sides of the front seats that was on the 2002
-Driver's Front seat height adjustment.
-Rear Sway Bar that was on the 2002
-Vibration limiting tubing that was on the 2002 Hood Prop Rod
I traded in my '02 Touring Edition for the 2003 GT. I gave up the above features, plus a sunroof in the trade. I was offered from $7,000.00 to $9000.00 for my 2002 with 15k miles, in perfect condition, with 7 year 100K extended warranty.
Based on the large number of trade-ins out there in the used car market - Due to the low interest rates on new car purchases; it should be a buyer's market on used units. If they are selling proportional to the trade-in price, you should be able to save $10K off the price of a new one and still get a car with well under 20K miles, and 6 years/ 50K miles left on the standard warranty.
However, if you opt for the performance of the GT, get ready for the sacrifices. If you never had a 2002, you won't miss the deleted items.... Plus the extra "juice" the GT has makes it a blast to drive.
