If you're totally distraught and a new headliner is out of the question for now, maybe try this:

Go under your pillar covers and get some spare material.
Glue part of it on a piece of cardboard.
Punch some 1/4" holes in it.
Use extra material to make small patches that just barely fit inside the holes. I use my wife's small curved sissors.
Put in some glue (3M Plastic and Emblem Adhesive) using toothpicks.
Add material.
If the practice looks good enough, try it on the headliner.

P.S. I've done this on cigarette burn holes and it looked better than the hole. Also, sometimes instead of using the whole material, I just cut off the fuzz and lightly overlay it on adhesive.
