The only thing that you should need to do is to wait a few seconds for the oil pressure to build. Other than that I don't do any 5000 RPM blasts for the few minutes it takes for the engine temp to get up to operating temp. It is usually there within a few minutes of normal driving. Letting a car idle to warm up for any lenght of time really does nothing but waste fuel these days. The multi viscosity oils really flow well even at starup temps. (well startup temps in So Cal)
