Cook since your from up north, it couldn't have been the same one I saw but I've seen the same thing here in Florida. It was a decal (maybe painted), (pretty large) on the side starting from the bulge after the front wheel and long enough to take up both doors. As you said it was an imitation of the scoop on the early model Corvettes. So, I guess it's an option from either the factory or put on by the dealers. This one didn't have a hood scoop.
