It is highly unlikely to be the heater core since it sits on the passenger side of the car. Not impossible, but very unlikely.

QSD got me thinking (me thinking = a dangerous scenario)...
A while ago, someone wanted to know how to run wires into the car and you suggested a pre-existing channel you had found on the driver's side. Did you check there?
